The CoVE (Centre of Vocational Excellence) for Sports project has officially begun its journey. Over three dynamic days, partners from across Europe came together to align their vision, strengthen collaboration, and lay the groundwork for an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming vocational excellence in the sports sector.
With representatives from ministries, universities, vocational institutions, and sports organizations across France, Greece, Germany, and Spain, the Kick-Off Meeting marked more than just a formal launch, it marked the beginning of a shared European commitment.
A Shared Vision for Excellence in Sport
The opening session, held at the Chamber of Commerce in Lille, set an inspiring tone. Representatives from national ministries emphasized the strategic importance of sport, not only as competition, but as a powerful tool for inclusion, skills development, and social impact.
Discussions quickly moved beyond theory. Partners addressed key themes shaping the future of sports education:
- How can vocational training in sport become more inclusive?
- How can the sports industry be better connected with education systems?
- What role does the European Pact for Skills play in strengthening cooperation?
These conversations anchored the project’s long-term ambition: building a strong and sustainable CoVE model for sport.
Designing the Model: From Ideas to Structure
The second day shifted focus from inspiration to construction.
At the Regional Council of Hauts-de-France, partners engaged in collaborative workshops to map out the structural logic of the project. Brainstorming active sessions and collective brainstorming, the consortium defined the key components needed to develop a holistic CoVE ecosystem.
Work Packages were clarified, responsibilities aligned, and milestones defined. Quality assurance mechanisms were introduced to ensure transparency and high standards throughout implementation.
The outcome? A shared understanding of how vision translates into action.
Communication, Impact and European Momentum
The final day, hosted at Sport Lab in Paris, focused on dissemination and sustainability. National clusters worked on country-specific communication strategies to ensure that project results reach the right stakeholders and create lasting impact.
A particularly inspiring moment was the visit of Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, French Minister of Sports and the Olympics & Paralympic Games, whose presence highlighted the political and strategic relevance of vocational excellence in sport at European level.
The energy in the room reflected a clear message: this project matters.
Beyond Meetings: Building a True Partnership
Throughout the three days, the “Shooting Stars” team-building program fostered trust and cohesion among partners. Interactive activities and informal exchanges strengthened the human dimension of the consortium, an essential ingredient for successful transnational cooperation.
The program also included enriching study visits, connecting policy discussions with real-world practice:
- Observing the Olympic Flame Relay in Lille
- Exploring innovation at Decathlon’s Btwin Village
- Networking with experts from major French sports institutions
- Discovering Paris 2024 installations along the Seine
These experiences reinforced the project’s connection to innovation, legacy, and European sports development.
The Road Ahead
The Kick-Off Meeting successfully established the strategic, operational, and collaborative foundations of the CoVE for Sports project.
With strong institutional support, committed partners, and a clear roadmap, the consortium now moves into the implementation phase, focused on strengthening partnerships, developing innovative educational models, and advancing vocational excellence in sport across Europe.
This is only the beginning.
